EDITOR'S NOTE

Wow.

And let me just follow that up with a holy crap.

This is it, the fourth issue of a quarterly magazine. One year of Butter Mag! Well, sort of. Technically I started working on the site long before the first issue, but it still feels pretty cool to have a full season set complete.

These last few months have been an absolute whirlwind, I moved from the States to Japan, started going to school again full-time, and had my Butter production schedule to stick to! It was a little chaotic, and I’m so grateful to all the athletes for being very patient about the insane time differences and my capricious Wi-Fi.

During those times when the world felt like it had flipped upside down, my mind kept wandering back to stories. It’s probably no surprise that I’ve loved stories since I was a kid, but even now they carry so much weight. They serve as touchpoints for people to connect with one another. I like to think, as humans, that no matter how different we may be from someone else, we will always look for a reflection of ourselves and our soul. And what better way to do that, than tell a story? It is my theory that if you keep sharing stories, each reflecting a tiny piece of you, you will have a beautiful disco ball soul.

As always, thank you to my editor Emma, the queen of commas. Thank you to Matt for helping with photos while I was in a state of flux. Thank you again to all the amazing athletes for sharing your stories with me and being amazing to work with. Thank you to all the photographers, your work adds so much to every article. And finally thank you so, so much to you, the reader, for your support and reading everyone’s stories. I hope they bring you as much joy to read as it did for me to write them.
