ATHLETE FAVORITES

We asked this season’s athletes to share a piece of equipment they can’t live without. All linked items go to REI.com as affiliate links and help support future issues of Butter Mag!

“A notebook, pen, and the medication I have to take every day.”

“I just need my surfboard, and then I can go be in the ocean and find some joy. My favorite board is the first board I bought for myself. The brand is Blue and it’s a 72 inches egg shape and it’s yellow and pink. I’ll ride the other boards and then whenever I come back to my pink and yellow 72, I’m just like, I’m home again.”

“My favorite piece of equipment right now, which Nahanni was wearing in the film, is a three layer Picture shell jacket. They have this really cool material membrane they work with called Xpor. The reason I love it is it’s a really awesome waterproof membrane and it doesn’t use any chemicals. That’s probably my favorite because I wear it everyday to ski, I love the quality, and I love that they’re working with other organizations. They’re like, we have a problem, how do we solve it? And that just makes me excited.”

“It’s my favorite jacket, but it’s the Outdoor Research Helium Insulated Hoodie. It was, one, the first puffy jacket I ever owned that actually fit me, and two, it was bright orange, which is one of my favorite colors. So it’s double whammy on the I love it factor.”

“Probably my wetsuit. I need that up here year round. I really like to snorkel and stuff too. So this whole world of being in the water would be inaccessible without it. Even my surfboard, I can’t use my surfboard here, at least here without the wet suit.”

“This is so gross, but I’m going to share it anyways. I wore my Wild Rye Olivia Onesie for, like, three, four days. Didn’t take it off, didn’t change it, didn’t change my underwear, nothing. Just stayed and lived in that thing for four days because I was skiing every morning. I’d get back at seven, make dinner, go to bed, and wake up at four to go skiing the next morning. So I had no reason to take it off. It is 100% one of my most favorite base layers.”
